In the beginning, was the so-called 'Golden Age' of technology for humankind - Robots of all shapes and sizes, Mechs, Androids, almost anything imaginable! The benefits of such a breakthrough were immense - The jobs that were too dangerous for a human could now be achieved with a robot! Errands that needed running no longer had to be passed to a child on a bicycle: A robot could do it!
Indeed, whilst some adored the machines, some hated them - For, with their efficiency and prowess, many poorer people were forced out of jobs. This was part of the powder keg.
The military had benefited greatly from this - Mechs could be used instead of tanks and planes - Mechs were much more suitable for combat - They could wield blades and cannons, some could fly, others travel underwater. The possibilities of such technology were unimaginable. This was the second part of the powder keg.
The powder keg which blew up in an inferno of civil unrest and military superpowers: Unable to keep control over the public any longer, countries exploded into civil war, and other countries, emboldened by the apparent helplessness of their rivals, invaded. This terrible, world-wide war came to be known as the Domination War.
The war that destroyed the Earth.
Wracked by laser and bullets, fire and water, the Earth, once so green and verdant, became a wasteland of unimaginable danger. Disease became prolific, due to the survivors of the war having no medical facilities, and no sanitary places to live. Survival was a hit-and-miss affair - Some Mechs still worked after the war, and their owners were abusing their new-found power.
We live in the world decades later: Humanity has not flourished, as some had hoped. In fact, our numbers have stayed mostly the same for generations - Earth remains a wasteland, and though Mechs have become more common, so have battles...
Still, we have some hope - Coronet City has started up its Battle Commission, in the hope that getting those with Mechs to fight for sport, would distract those who would do innocents harm.
