We are Destroy:Rebuild, a mech RPG inspired by anime such as Zoids and Gundam, set in our own original world. Here, you can pilot a giant robot, try to bring the world to order as a politician, or even just try to survive as a civilian: The possibilities are endless!
Decades after the events of the terrible 'Domination War', the earth still remains as an inhospitable wasteland. Here, though two large cities, and countless smaller settlements have been created by the remains of humankind, battles still rage on, and people still perish, each and every day. Will peace finally be achieved? Or will humanity finally succumb to the inevitable...?
The large, black tiger-shaped mech was hardly difficult to spot: RYX-072, to give his full 'name', was stood, in all his freshly-washed glory, at the edge of the wastelands, back to the many hues of Zephyr City, and intending to advance into the unknown. Not too far, of course: Sylph may have been daring, but she wasn't stupid. If her tiger ran out of juice all the way out in the wastes, she was as good as dead, especially with the myriad of bandits that went around these days.
The thick-set feline made its way forwards, after a time, assuming the coast to be clear: It wouldn't do to be ambushed on a quick jaunt around the city. Perhaps she'd bother to travel down to Coronet, that gleaming gem of a city, just beyond the horizon. It would take quite a while, but she could go and pick up a battle, or simply enjoy being a tourist... Yes, that was a good idea! Just a stroll around in the Brastle Tiger was decidedly very boring: Sylph wanted some action! That said, as she headed off at a thundering gallop, she couldn't help but wonder if she should have packed more snacks... At her heavy-class mech's top speed, she had time to admire the view...
High in the sky, Zane sat in his mech: Epyon, in a mode that the computer in him said was 'High Mobility Mode'. Zane still thought it looked like a dragon, though. In any case, he was currently low on funds and food, so he needed to rob somebody, and fast, but nobody worth picking up was crossing the wastela-
Hold it. There was a mech down there...
Swooping marginally lower, so he was still hard to spot, but so he could size up his target. It was a tiger mech: Looked heavily armoured, but from the way it... Lumbered, Zane was certain he could outspeed it. Provided it didn't have missiles or something, obviously. But that was a risk he was willing to take.
The mech's wings, almost jet-like, and almost bat-like, tucked into its body, and the thing dropped like a stone. Grappling furiously with the controls, Zane pulled it up, just behind his target, and promptly pitched Epyon forward, in a backflip-like motion, in an effort to score a mark across the tiger's armour with what was currently a dragon's tail.
What the heck was happening? Something smacked into the Brastle Tiger's back, causing it to flich, and turn, as quickly as it could, to strike its attacker. No dice. hat ever had hit them had done it far too quickly. Sylph cursed, craning both her, and her Tiger's necks to try and catch sight of the thing that attacked them: A bandit, she assumed, although she had no idea that they operated so close to the cities. But then again, the route she was taking was the general line of commute, so it made sense for the bandits to hang around her.
There it was! A flash of red in the sky: Not very informative, but it told her that her that the enemy was in the skies. Now, coupled with its speed, that should mean that it wasn't as heavily armoured as her Brastle Tiger. Hopefully. She supposed that she couldn't really make any assumptions in this situation, though...
Slamming her fist into a button, Sylph spoke into her radio, on a frequency that he should pick up, provided he had a radio in his mech: "Please, just go away quietly. I'd hate to have to fight you." Sylph sat back in her cockpit wearily, although her hands never ceased in their movements: Bringing her face-mounted guns to bear, and firing in the general direction of the bandit. She wasn't really expecting it to hit, but you never knew. In some situations, you got lucky.
Zane let out a surprised sounding squark over the radio. This pilot wanted him to go away quietly? In case the tiger had to fight him? How... How ridiculous! Zane promptly turned off the radio. Childish requests over the radio were not what he wanted to hear. Indeed, once the nobleman of the wasteland had entered some commands into the computer systems in Epyon's cockpit, there sounded from the outside a raucous clanging, and hissing, and squealing of metal sliding over metal. When the noise was finished, Zane simply pulled the video screens blocking his view out of the way. they had been useful in the High Mobility Mode, but now Epyon was in his normal mode, there really was no need for it.
Grinning like a madman, Zane, at the wheel of his mech, charged, 'Heat Rod' whip flailing in the wind, aiming to smash the tiger's head in, even as machine-gun fire burrowed its way into the softer segments of his armour, and pinged off the harder sections. No pathetic little gun such as that was going to stop him!
Crap. What'd she gotten herself into? This bandit was really serious! He was really going to trash her! But what a mech! It was... Well, stunning, really: Even in the hands of one who wanted her dead, it was really a thing to behold, flowing seamlessly from transformation, to attack.
But that was what she had to concentrate on, if she didn't want to be crushed. She flung her tiger to one side, letting out a cry of exertion as she did, followed by a cry of anguish as the whip-like weapon, previously aimed at her mech's head, smashed into its shoulder, splintering armour, and making several lights blink like crazy in her cockpit. She had to retaliate. She couldn't just not: She'd become a punching bag if she just tried to minimise the damage. So, in an effort to act on this, she fired off a salvo from the Saber Busters that sat either side of her cockpit. It was, quite frankly, her only real weapon, until she could afford something better, so she'd simply have to make do.
No pathetic machine-guns were going to stop him? Zane may have miscalculated on that one: Indeed, he was forced to retreat a little. As the bullets ate away at Epyon's body armour. Not good: Looked like this cat was going to take a lot more skinning than he had previously thought... Ugh, how irritating! And here he'd been looking forward to some easy prey for once! The other bandits always talked about that, as if their lives were getting boring. Well, Zane's life was anything but boring, in that context, though he sometimes wished it was.
So, this little kitty wanted long-range combat, eh? Well, he was certainly capable of delivering that! Bringing the Photon Blaster to bear, a weapon not dissimilar in design to a handgun, in the specifications he'd had it built to, anyway. Aiming with it was simply a matter of pointing his mech's arm at its victim. Bang! One shot of hissing blue energy was away. Bang! And another! Zane smiled, and leaned back in his cockpit chair.
Sylph really needed to invest in some stronger defences: She'd activated the force-shield, but some damage still registered on her computer - Her cat's front right leg, to be exact. Not exactly what she needed. Hopefully, someone would be attracted by all the smoke, noise, and general confusion, and come aid her, Then again, some of her enemy's bandit buddies might come calling, too... Too close to call at this point. Still, she kept the pressure on with her machine-guns. They had to do something! Still, even if she did take out the band it's mech, she'd still have to limp home in a damaged mech - One that practically screamed: "Come attack me!"
Ugh. She'd have to bank on help coming, at some point, then. Fat chance of that, though - All the pilots she'd met seemed to all be out for número uno...
